Kenny Williams happy with club

Dont be surprised if Kenny Williams makes another trade, but the White Sox general manager said he might stay put.

One day after new relief pitcher Brett Myers arrived and the White Sox were swept for the first time all season, Williams addressed the media Monday and said even though the White Sox are on a five-game losing streak he likes his clubs makeup.

Williams spoke with manager Robin Ventura before Mondays series opener and is convinced the White Sox, who trail the Detroit Tigers by 1 12 games in the American League Central, are capable of bouncing back.

We had a great conversation about the mood of the club, the energy of the club, the overall attitude, Williams said. These guys are still grinding it out and they maybe need to loosen up, lighten up on themselves and recognize what they have accomplished to this point and maybe have a little fun with it. A lot of people didnt think wed be in this position right now. If we look at it from that standpoint, its a nice spot to be in as we head into August here whether its a game-and-a-half up or a game-and-a-half back. Ultimately is it nice to be in first place and be chased? Absolutely. But its our time to do a little chasing right now.

With that, Williams said theres no way the White Sox would consider a status change from buyers to sellers. Oh hell no, Williams said. He noted few impact bats are available to buyers and he isnt certain where he could improve the offense. Williams also stated the market for impact pitchers has dwindled, which limits the potential for any future deals.

If its not an impact type player, we dont want to disrupt what weve got going on and the guys that have gotten you to this point, Williams said.

Williams is hopeful starting pitcher John Danks can have an impact on the club this season. After a week of positive signs, Danks, who has been on the disabled list since May 20 with a left shoulder strain, will participate in a bullpen session on Tuesday.

Danks would have to throw several bullpen sessions and essentially go through a partial-spring training before he could ever return, Williams said.

That can be the best thing that can happen for us, Williams said. If we are in it at that point, and we definitely expect to be, then we've got a guy here that will be fresh and impactful in his own right. Doing something that is going to take away from this club to accomplish that impactful move right is not going to happen. If they're talking about a prospect-type deal than we'll talk about it or a deal that makes us exponentially better in the short term and the long term.
