Miguel Cabrera didn't find the batter's box to his liking

Miguel Cabrera may only be 28, but he's been around a while and understands what it takes to be a wily veteran.

Which at least helps to explain what the Tigers slugger was up to in the first inning of the White Sox home opener Friday afternoon.

Cabrera started to step into the batter's box against Jake Peavy, but decided the chalk outline wasn't to his liking.

See?

So this leads to the umpires huddling up with Detroit manager Jim Leyland and then the group calling out White Sox head groundskeeper Roger Bossard.

And then, of course, Cabrera gets his wish. Bossard and his crew had to rake away the old chalk lines and draw new ones.

Peavy can't believe it:

But it's OK because Cabrera thinks it's funny:

The delay lasted 8:40.

All better!

If Cabrera was trying to throw Peavy off rhythm, it didn't work. And he went 0-for-3 on the day with a walk.

A.J. Pierzynski was understandably miffed by this scenario:

"I've never seen that one," the White Sox catcher said after the game. "I've never seen that. I've heard guys complain about the box before, but I've never seen them actually come out and re-do the boxes during a game. It's one of those things, Cabrera wasn't comfortable, and the umpires acknowledged that. It looked like they were a little pushed up, but there's been places where we go and we talk about it on the bench, 'hey, the box doesn't feel right.' So next time it's like that we're going to stop the game and re-do the boxes for us.

"He said it was too far forward and I guess the umpires agreed with him."
