Sale will get extra rest after Wednesday start

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The White Sox said Saturday afternoon Chris Sale is expected to make his next scheduled start on Wednesday.

Manager Robin Ventura said the team plans to monitor Sale, who admitted after Fridays start he might have felt some fatigue in a 109-pitch effort.

Sale improved to 12-3 even though he allowed a season-high five earned runs for a second straight start.

The first-year starters fastball velocity was down -- his two-seam averaged 90.2 mph according to brooksbaseball.net -- and 72 of his 109 pitches were sliders or changeups.

You do (watch closely), but theres not a lot we can do about it right now as far as who we got to put in there, Ventura said. Youre looking at how many innings they can go and watch them in a game. You probably watch them closer because they havent been doing it that often lately. You watch that. The bullpen, you have (Brett) Myers down there, you can extend it a little bit or get them out earlier if you want to.

Sale has pitched a professional-high 124 innings this season. But in 2009, he combined for 144 13 innings between Florida Gulf Coast University and the Cape Cod League.

After Wednesday in Minnesota, Sale will get an extra day of rest in between his next two starts as the White Sox are of on Aug. 2 and Aug. 9.

(Wednesday is) normal, so it should be fine, Sale said. Im just kind of going by what theyve got for me. Its something we havent talked about recently or at all. There may come a time for that and well handle it when it gets to it.
