White Sox talking with Rowand?

Assuming the White Sox can find trade partner for Carlos Quentin, the team will have an opening on their bench next season. That's where Aaron Rowand could come in.

The fan favorite and 2005 world champion's agents have spoken with the White Sox, according to Jerry Crasnick, and on the surface Rowand could be a fit -- especially if Jordan Danks is selected in Thursday's Rule 5 Draft.

As it stands, the White Sox bench should be Tyler Flowers, Brent Lillibridge, a middle infielder (Ozzie Martinez or Eduardo Escobar, most likely) and then an open spot. Given Lillibridge's ability to play any position but catcher, the Sox could go with a fourth outfielder to be used as a late-inning defensive replacement for Dayan Viciedo.

Rowand still plays good defense, although his offensive numbers have tanked in the last three years. With that in mind, he'd probably have to settle for a minor-league contract and an invite to spring training.
