Bulls announce Summer League roster: A note on each player

The Bulls released their 2019 Las Vegas Summer League roster on Wednesday, headlined by first round draft picks Coby White (2019) and Chandler Hutchison (2018).

It doesn't include Wendell Carter Jr., who will miss the games after requiring surgery to repair a core muscle injury.

Shaq Harrison, who appeared in 73 games for the Bulls last year, will also play on the team. The Bulls begin play in Las Vegas on July 5.

Here's a quick note on each of the players on the Bulls' 14-man roster:

0 - Coby White, G, North Carolina: The seventh overall pick in last month's NBA Draft will have the spotlight on him in Las Vegas, especially with Wendell Carter missing the action. Expect White to lead the Bulls in minutes, points and assists. The up-and-down style of Summer League should suit his play perfectly.

2 - Marques Townes, G , Loyola: Townes was named First Team All-MVC after averaging 15.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists for the Ramblers. He was also an integral part of the Ramblers' Final Four run a year ago, scoring 18 points in Loyola's Elite 8 win over Nevada.

3- Shaq Harrison, G, Tulsa: Harrison appeared in 73 games last season, taking on a large role down the stretch for the injury-riddled Bulls. He likely won't play all that much in Las Vegas but, as a former NBA'er without a contract for next season, this is a place for him to showcase his defensive skills.

5 - Justin Simon, G, St. John's: The 6-foot-5 guard was the Big East Defensive Player of the Year in 2019 and was a consensus top-40 prospect entering college. He transferred to St. John's after one year at Arizona and performed well, averaging 10.4 points, 3.2 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

7 - Jonathan Holmes, PF, Texas: The 6-foot-9 power forward went undrafted in 2015 and has bounced around the world since, playing professionally in Spain, Israel and Japan. He's also played with the G-League's Canton Charge and Maine Red Claws in 2017 and 2018, respectively.

11- Mychael Mulder, G, Kentucky: Mulder has spent the last two seasons with the Windy City Bulls. He took a step forward a year ago, averaging 13.7 points and 2.8 3-pointers on 41.4% shooting from beyond the arc.

12 - Daniel Gafford, C, Arkansas: The Bulls' 2019 second-round pick will have a huge role in Las Vegas with Carter sitting out. He should run plenty of pick-and-roll action with White, and it'd be a surprise if he didn't lead the team in rebounding.

14 - Perrion Callandret, G, Idaho: The 6-foot-2 Callandret suffered season-ending injuries in both his junior and senior seasons for the the Vandals in 2017 and 2018. He's good friends with Zach LaVine, if his Instagram is any indication.

15 - Chandler Hutchison, F, Boise State: It's an important summer for Hutchison, who didn't show much as a rookie before suffering a season-ending toe injury. He should get all the run he can handle in Vegas alongside White.

20 - Adam Mokoka, G, France: He signed a two-way contract with the Bulls earlier this week and projects as an athletic spot-up shooter capable of playing defense with nice length. He's one of the more intriguing names to watch on this list simply because he's an international unknown.

25 - Walt Lemon Jr., G, Bradley: He took Chicago by storm in the final two weeks of the NBA season and will now get a chance to showcase his talents once again. Lemon was a downhill, aggressive lead guard who led the Bulls in scoring three times over the final six games of the season.

28 - Obi Enechionyia, F, Temple: Enechionyia played with Detroit's Summer League team last season and spent his 2018-19 season with Real Betis in Spain. With 11 letters, he has the longest last name of any player on the Bulls' Summer League team, edging out Callandret (10).

30- Tyler Hall, G, Montana State: A (relatively) hometown kid from Rock Island, Ill., Hall averaged 20.0 points per game over his four-year career at Montana State. He broke the school's scoring record as a senior and was just the 69th player (nice) in Division I history to score 25,00 points. He can fill it up in a hurry.

44 - Rodney Purvis, G, Connecticut: A former McDonald's All-American, the 25-year-old Purvis has spent the last two years in the G-League playing for Orlando and Sioux Falls. He appeared in 16 games for the Magic in 2018, averaging 6.0 points and 1.1 assists in 18.1 minutes.
