NEW YORK—Things were eventful for the Bulls even before Game 1 of their first-round playoff series against the Nets tipped off Saturday evening.

First, Joakim Noah, who seemed unlikely to play in the series opener, not only suited up, but started for the Bulls, despite his ongoing bout with plantar fasciitis in his right foot.

The game-time decision was made after the New York native, who said Friday that he had a tear in his foot, warmed up prior to the game.

But that wasn’t the only surprise for the Bulls, as injured superstar Derrick Rose sat on the bench for only the second time all season.

Though Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau suggested that the former league MVP could do so before the game, Rose only previously sat on the bench—in street clothes both times—in a road loss at Indiana.
