Carmelo Anthony was supposed to make his decision on where to sign by the end of the weekend.
Yet here we are on Tuesday afternoon and we still don't have a resolution, as Melo reportedly weighs his options with the Bulls, Knicks and Lakers.
But could Melo actually be waiting for LeBron James' decision first?
LeBron isn't expected to go to either the Bulls or Knicks and appears likely to either return to the Heat or come back home to the Cavaliers.
But what if there was a way Melo and LeBron could team up?
According to several reports, the money could work in Miami if Chris Bosh is lured to Texas by the opportunity offered by the Rockets or Mavericks. The Lakers could also have the funds available to bring in both Melo and LeBron.
Popular question raised by last five teams I've talked to: Is Melo holding out in hopes Bosh goes to Houston so he can join LeBron in Miami?— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) July 8, 2014
So what does all of this mean?
In a word - nothing. Not yet, anyways.
Everything is just speculation at this point and until something concrete actually happens, this is all just fodder for water cooler talk.
Hey, you can't say the NBA free agency period is boring.
