Mondays were never fun in school, but having the greatest basketball player ever show up for a surprise visit would change that.
And that's exactly what happened at Hornets Nest Elementary School in Charlotte.
The Hornets -- they officially changed from the Bobcats last month -- Instagram account documented the awesome encounter, beginning with the class posing for a picture and yelling out, "Let's go Hornets!"
At that time Jordan, the team's principal owner and chairman, appears in the doorway, and insanity excuses.
(The teacher may have been more excited than the kids)
It was all part of the Hornets and Jumpman teaming up with Lowe's for the Swarm and Serve initiative to "beautify and refurbish Hornets Nest Elementary School," according to a press release from the team. Volunteers spent the day participating in projects that included "refreshing outdoor common areas and playgrounds, weeding, painting, edging, mulching and planting, among other things."
The Hornets' "new" mascot, Hugo the Hornet, also brought kids from the school on the Book Bus, "a full-service literacy bus that travels throughout the Charlotte area year-round to encourage reading and distribute books to area youth."
The Hornets' Twitter account documented the special day. Here are a few of the tweets:
Kindergartner: "Are you still friends with all the cartoon guys from Space Jam?" Michael Jordan: "Of course! We go way back." #SwarmToServe— Charlotte Hornets (@hornets) June 9, 2014
