The punishment came down swift and forceful for Donald Sterling.
In a press conference Tuesday, NBA commissioner Adam Silver banned Sterling for life and fined the Los Angeles Clippers owner $2.5 million - the maximum fine allowed by the NBA.

Silver said he will also force Sterling to sell the team and will "do anything in my power to make sure that happens."
The first-year NBA commissioner - just three months into his post - said Sterling's racist comments and views "have no place in the NBA." Silver also said he has the full support of other owners to force the sale of the Clippers.
"I am outraged, so I can certainly understand others' outrage," Silver said.
