Quotable:

"Night in and night out, I was playing somebody tough, no matter if it was Northwestern or if it was Michigan State or Wisconsin. It was always competition night in and night out, and that prepared me. It got me where I'm at today."

Fit for the Bulls:

Petteway emerged two seasons ago as a dynamic scorer who carried a Nebraska team that burst out of years of doldrums to finish fourth in the Big Ten. But an abrupt NCAA tournament exit was followed by an extremely disappointing follow-up campaign this past season in which the Huskers were one of the Big Ten's lowest-finishing teams. That being said, Petteway didn't fall off much, remaining one of the conference's top scorers. He broke the 20-point barrier in five of the Huskers' first seven games this past season and continued to play well throughout the conference season. He scored 29 points in his final college game in the Big Ten Tournament. All that point production aside, though, it's unclear whether Petteway will just be one of those guys who stars in college and can't translate to the NBA. After a second straight season earning All-Big Ten honors, his stock likely wasn't going to get much higher. Not too many mock drafts include his name, and though he's expected to be available when the Bulls make their second pick, there are also likely to be much higher-rated prospects available then, too. Petteway showed he could fill up the basket in college, and for a team looking to crank up its offense under a new head coach, maybe he's worth a shot.
