Though every headline these days revolves around Carmelo Anthony, the Bulls are reportedly trying to lure another free agent to Chicago.
According to an ESPN report on Thursday night, the Bulls — along with All-Star center Joakim Noah — were in Los Angeles on Thursday to pitch free-agent big man Pau Gasol.

Gasol might be a consolation prize for the Bulls if they lose out on the Anthony sweepstakes. Their chances there might have taken a hit Thursday when both the Lakers and Knicks reportedly offered Anthony max contracts.

Gasol, though, would provide a strong, veteran frontcourt presence. The four-time All Star hasn't played a full season in any of the past three years, but he did average 17.4 points per game and 9.7 rebounds per game in 60 games last season, greatly improving on his numbers from the previous campaign.
In his 13-year career, Gasol has averaged 18.3 points and 9.2 rebounds per game in 35.6 minutes per game.
Though anything could change in this already wild offseason, it would figure that if Gasol came aboard and both Joakim Noah and Taj Gibson remained on the team, Gasol would have a reduced role.
The ESPN report also indicated that the Heat and Thunder were among the other teams trying to recruit Gasol.
