Sylvia Fowles received some company in the paint next season as the the Chicago Sky selected NC State center Markeisha Gatling with the 10th overall pick in the 2014 WNBA Draft.
The former Wolfpack star was named to the All-ACC First Team after she averaged 17.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game in the 2013-14 season. She set a school single-season record in field goal percentage (.663) and also holds NC State's all-time record in the same statistic (.628). The 6'-5" center recorded 31 straight double-doubles to end the season.
“When you watch Markeisha play you can see her ability to post and seal, and really be a physical presence in the paint,” said Sky head coach & general manager Pokey Chatman. “She can help us set some screens and get some rebounds which is definitely something we need to add to the arsenal.”
In last year's draft, the Sky made a huge splash by taking Delaware star Elena Delle Donne with the second overall selection. Delle Donne went on to win Rookie of the Year in her first season in the WNBA, averaging 15 points per game.
In the second round of this year's draft, the Sky selected California forward Gennifer Brandon. The team closed out the 2014 draft by picking Souther Miss guard Jamierra Faulkner in the third and final round.
