Team USA basketball to play exhibition game at United Center

In preparation for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain, Team USA will play a series of exhibition games with one matchup slated to take place in Chicago.

USA Basketball announced that the team will train on Aug. 14 and 15 in Chicago and play an exhibition contest against Brazil at the United Center on Aug. 16. Tickets for the game will go on sale May 16.

Team USA will also train and play exhibition games in Las Vegas, New York and Gran Canaria.

“Our training sessions and our exhibition games are vital in our preparations for defending our gold medal at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup,” USA Basketball chairman and national team managing director Jerry Colangelo said. “We have again scheduled a challenging lineup of exhibition opponents for our USA Men’s National Team. We’re excited to give USA fans and basketball fans in general the opportunity to see their USA National Team play in Las Vegas, Chicago, New York and Gran Canaria.”

“The 2014 USA National Team tour will offer our players and coaches the opportunity to get familiar with each other and to gain critical international game experience against a variety of differing styles,” USA and Duke University head coach Mike Krzyzewski said. “Playing games at the Thomas & Mack Center, the United Center, Madison Square Garden and in Gran Canaria.

Team USA will have some Bulls flavor as Tom Thibodeau will be on Krzyzewski's coaching staff. Also, Derrick Rose plans to play for Team USA as he recovers from knee surgery.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup will begin on Aug. 30 with USA opening up preliminary round play against Finland.
