According to the Chicago Sun-Times' Adam Jahns, Jay Cutler has ligament damage in his right thumb.

Jahns wrote that multiple team sources confirmed that Cutler suffered the injury in the Bears' Week 1 loss to the Houston Texans. Cutler then re-aggravated the injury Monday night against the Eagles.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport then reported Tuesday morning that Cutler could miss an extended period of time with the injury.

He left the game in the third quarter after throwing an interception and was ruled out for the remainder of the contest.

One source told Jahns that the injury Cutler is dealing with "typically results in a three-to-four week absence."

Cutler said after Monday night's 29-14 loss to the Eagles that were was concern over the injury.

"As a quarterback, you kind of need your right thumb," he told reporters after the game. "We'll see what it is."

Brian Hoyer, who the Bears signed this offseason, replaced Cutler and went 9 of 12 for 78 yards.
