Blackhawks again without Jonathan Toews tonight against Panthers

Jonathan Toews remains out with an upper-body injury when the Blackhawks host the Florida Panthers Tuesday night at the United Center.

Toews was leaving the United Center in street clothes just as the Blackhawks were starting morning skate. Coach Joel Quenneville said Toews is listed as day-to-day and again questionable for Thursday. He added that Toews’ injury remains the same.

“I think you have an idea that you’d like to get [him] back on the ice and as soon as you see him on the ice you got an idea he’s close to playing,” Quenneille said. “Jonny wants to be out there on the ice in the worst way, so we’ll do everything we can to get him back.”

Corey Crawford will start. Scott Darling, who missed Monday’s practice due to illness, was back at morning skate and will back up Crawford.

The Panthers, meanwhile, are facing interesting times. Coach Gerard Gallant was fired following Sunday night’s loss to the Carolina Hurricanes; general manager Tom Rowe takes over as interim coach. Brian Campbell, who played for Gallant his final two seasons in Florida, said Monday he was “surprised, shocked” that Gallant was fired. Panthers players said they’ll regroup and go from here.

“It’s nothing that we can worry about,” defenseman Aaron Ekblad said. “We feel we have to move forward and that’s what we’re doing today.”
