Blackhawks-Red Wings rivalry remains despite rare games

Corey Crawford will start and the Blackhawks will rekindle a rivalry, albeit for one game, when they face the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night.

The Blackhawks are on a three-game winning streak. They remain atop the Western Conference with 57 points, two ahead of the Minnesota Wild (55).

Despite not playing the Wings often anymore, coach Joel Quenneville said the rivalry remains.

“It’s always fun to play the Wings because you know when they come in here, you can sense it in the building. Lot of Wings fans and they still have that rivalry. When we go there it’ll be the same,” Quenneville said. “I still think you can always rekindle that rivalry instantly with the pace they play at and familiarity we know, whether it’s importance of the game or just playing these guys. There’s always meaning there. It was our best rival for years but there’s still something there.”

The Blackhawks’ lineup isn’t expected to change from Sunday.
