NHLPA hopes to give mediator a second shot

The day after a marathon session of talks with the NHL, the NHLPA has requested a federal mediator to join the collective bargaining agreement discussions again.

As the two sides reconvened on Thursday, the players association asked that mediators once again be part of the negotiation process. The NHL has yet to agree to it.

The league and NHLPA agreed to use U.S. federal mediators during negotiation talks last week. It didnt last long: last Thursday, just two days into talks, mediators said the NHL and PA were still too far apart and that further talks (at that time) werent going to be productive. But in a statement, NHLPA executive Donald Fehr said the mediators indicated that they would stay in contact with the league and the NHLPA, and would call the parties back together when they thought the time was right.

Well, the mediators didnt call the parties. But apparently the players association felt the time was right to bring mediation back into the fold.

Blackhawks share condolences after passing of six-time All Star Bill White

The Blackhawks shared their condolences after the passing of former defenseman Bill White on Monday.

"The Chicago Blackhawks organization extends its thoughts and heartfelt condolences to Bill White's family as we mourn his loss," the team's statement read. "He will be remembered as a leader, generous teammate and tough player to play against. His energetic style helped the Blackhawks see great success during his tenure with the team."

White spent seven seasons with the Blackhawks — part of a nine-year NHL career — scoring 30 goals and tallying 149 assists.

He appeared in six consecutive All-Star Games from 1969 to 1974 and helped the Blackhawks to the playoffs in all seven of his seasons in Chicago.

White also had a brief stint as the Blackhawks' head coach, manning the bench for the final 46 games of the 1976-77 season.

But are they even the best Blackhawks team of the three recent Stanley Cup winners (2010, 2013 and 2015)? The SportsTalk Live panel debates in the video above.
