Report: NBA, Union to meet before deadline

As first reported by the New York Times early Sunday afternoon and confirmed by multiple other media outlets, a meeting between the NBA and players association will take place Sunday evening in New York. According to reports, the meeting will consist of a small group, with participants including Lakers guard and union president Derek Fisher, executive director Billy Hunter, NBA commissioner David Stern, deputy commissioner Adam Silver and San Antonio Spurs owner Peter Holt, head of the league's labor relations committee.

The labor negotiations will apparently occur despite the league's reported precondition of the union accepting a 50-50 split of basketball-related income prior to another session before Stern's imposed deadline of Monday to save a full 82-game regular season. The union refused to agree to those terms, according to multiple reports.

A group of players staged a meeting Saturday in Miami, prior to the "South Florida All-Star Classic," an exhibition game held on the campus on Florida International University -- the college where Chicago native and former NBA head coach, executive and Hall of Fame player Isiah Thomas currently coaches -- organized by the Heat trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh featuring several other NBA stars, including Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudemire and Chris Paul.
