Major League Baseball named Kris Bryant the National League player of the month and Kyle Hendricks the pitcher of the month for August.
Could this be a harbinger of season awards, too?
Bryant has been good all season but was on another level in August, staking his claim to the NL MVP award with a 1.220 OPS, 10 homers and 22 RBI.
He finished the month on a 13-game hitting streak in which he posted a .462 average, 1.540 OPS, 17 RBI and 19 runs in the two-week span.

Meanwhile, Hendricks put his name in the NL Cy Young conversation with a 1.28 ERA in 42.1 innings, posting a quality start each time out (6) and sporting a ridiculous 0.78 WHIP.
Hendricks started the month with a complete game shutout of the Miami Marlins at Wrigley Field and finished with seven shutout innings of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
