Cubs pitching prospect John Williamson juggling music, baseball career

If John Williamson's goal to play in the big leagues for the Cubs doesn't work out, at least he has another career to fall back on.

When he isn't on the mound striking out batters, the Cubs 23-year-old pitching prospect is in the studio working on his musical career.

Williamson, also known as Swilson, released an album titled "Unreleased" on iTunes and Spotify last February. He also a YouTube page with all of his work.

Back in May, Cubs minor-league coordinator Darnell McDonald posted Williamson's freestyle session on Instagram.

While Williamson's rap career is just starting to take off, the former 23rd-round draft pick also just had his best statistical season in the minors.

Williamson had a 2-1 record and a 2.37 ERA with a 53/20 KK/BB ratio in 37 games with the South Bend Cubs in 2016.

For Williamson, playing for the Cubs is his No. 1 priority.

"I want to be a pitcher for the Cubs," Williamson said. "But hopefully I can twist that into a multi-faceted career.

"Baseball came way before music so baseball has always been my main goal and main dream. Since being drafted by the Chicago Cubs, definitely the goal is Wrigley."
