Unforgettable fight between Nolan Ryan and Robin Ventura revisited 23 years later

An unforgettable moment in baseball history happened 23 years ago. It wasn't a clutch walk-off home run or an epic no-hitter, but it still somehow sticks with you all these years later.

On August 4, 1993 future Hall-of-Fame Texas Rangers pitcher Nolan Ryan threw a ball that plunked White Sox third baseman Robin Ventura. After starting to walk to first base, Ventura suddenly darted to the mound where the 46-year-old Ryan was waiting. The savvy veteran somehow put a headlock on Ventura and followed with a few minor strikes to the head.

The benches cleared and tempers flared between both teams, creating a scene more suited for WWE than MLB. Ventura and a White Sox manager Gene Lamont were both ejected, but shockingly Ryan remained in the game.

Both players have downplayed the fight in the years since and even jokingly reconciled in 2012

In 2015, CSN's Chuck Garfien shared an untold story about how a young Paul Konerko was in attendance as a fan the night of the fight, providing a fresh perspective on the game.

Time often has a way of fading memories, but the night Ryan and Ventura tussled is too vivid a moment to forget. For this reason, we have recreated the fight in a unique way with a special video above.
