Less than an hour after cutting ties with Mat Latos and promoting Tyler Danish Thursday, the White Sox also announced they signed Justin Morneau to a one-year deal.

Morneau will be paid $1 million.

The 35-year-old first baseman was immediately placed on the 15-day disabled list as he recovers from an elbow injury.

Morneau underwent surgery on his elbow over the offseason and will not be available until mid-to-late July.

Morneau - the 2006 AL MVP - has been limited to just 103 games a season over the last six years with concussion problems and a litany of other injuries, but he's been effective when on the field.

He led the National League with a .319 average with the Rockies in 2014 and posted an .850 OPS, 20 homers and 97 RBI in 184 games in Colorado over the last two seasons.

Morneau spent 11 years with the Minnesota Twins and played 64 games at U.S. Cellular Field, posting a .271/.332/.504 slash line with 15 homers and 53 RBI. The 15 homers is tied for his highest total in any park besides the Metrodome and Target Field.
