White Sox morning roundup

From yesterday:

Kosuke Fukudome became the first free agent the White Sox signed to a major-league deal this offseason, agreeing to a one-year, 1 million deal with a 3.5 million team option for 2013.

Four years ago, the White Sox pursued Fukudome, only to see him sign with the Cubs. Patrick Mooney looked back at the Sox pursuit and Fukudome's career with the Cubs, who dealt Fukudome to Cleveland before the trade deadline last July. Len Kasper also provided some quick analysis of what Fukudome will bring from the North Side to South Side after his brief stopover in Cleveland.

In Cleveland, though, Fukudome struggled at the plate. Why was that the case?

The move to add Fukudome cements Jordan Danks' position as someone the White Sox don't appear to be seriously considering for a spot on the 25-man, let alone 40-man, roster.

But perhaps if Alex Rios hadn't had such a trying 2011, the Sox would've been in a position to let Danks compete for a roster spot. Instead, Fukudome will likely spell Rios and Dayan Viciedo as the Sox looked for something more than a defensive replacementpinch-runner in their fourth outfielder.
