White Sox Road Ahead: How will James Shields fare against reigning AL champions?

Share

CSN's Chuck Garfien and Bill Melton preview the White Sox upcoming games in the latest Honda Road Ahead. presented by Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana Honda dealers.

James Shields was solid in his first outing of 2017, allowing only two hits, one earned run and recording five strikeouts across 5.1 innings in the White Sox 11-2 win over the Detroit Tigers. The only blemish in that game was his five walks, something he's struggled with throughout his MLB career.

His next start will be Tuesday on the road against the reigning American League champion Cleveland Indians. That lineup is no joke, and will provide more of a measuring stick as the season kicks into gear.

"It's a bigger test," Melton said. "I thought Detroit has a pretty good offensive ball club itself with a lot of power, and he threw the ball well. This is the type of ball club the Indians that there's no one way to pitch them. ... It looks like they hit just about everything. They're coming off a high from last year, and right now this is the ball club that's going to be the team you need to beat in the Central."

See what else Garfien and Melton had to say in the video above.
