White Sox sign Wise to one-year deal

The White Sox and Dewayne Wise have agreed to a one-year, 700,000 deal, the team announced Wednesday morning. Wise will enter his fourth season with the organization after re-joining the team last August following being designated for assignment by the Yankees.

Wise frequently served as a leadoff and No. 3 hitter after joining the White Sox last summer and hit .258.295.405 with five home runs and 12 steals in 176 plate appearances. With the White Sox fighting for a playoff spot, Wise hit .347.364.612 over 14 games between Sept. 1 and Sept. 17.

Over parts of 10 seasons spent in the majors, Wise has hit .228.264.395 with 30 home runs and 54 steals. In three seasons with the White Sox, Wise hit .244.284.406 and is known for saving Mark Buehrle's perfect game in 2009.

With the move, the White Sox 40-man roster is now full, meaning the team will have to designate a player for assignment to make a further addition through free agency.
