Takahashi has extensive big league experience, having appeared in 165 games over the last three seasons with the Pirates, Angels and Mets. He carries a 3.97 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 218 strikeouts in 240.1 innings.

The Tokyo native made 12 starts for the Mets in 2010, but has pitched exclusively in relief since then. He struggled last season to the tune of a 5.54 ERA, but his WHIP was still a respectable 1.25 and he reduced his walks while striking out 9.3 batters per nine innings.

Takahashi has held lefties to just a .238 AVG and .664 OPS during his MLB career and could slot in as another left-handed option in the Cubs' bullpen alongside James Russell.

Shaheen earned the nickname "Baby Gronk" and said he went from being a 6-foot-4, 195 pound college freshman to his current size by eating a lot of Chipotle burritos
