The MLB Draft does not pay immediate dividends for teams around the league like the NFL or NBA does.
Baseball's draft is more of a crapshoot, as organizations try to hit on just a few picks each year.

So the Cubs went safe with the No. 2 overall selection, trusting more in the payoff of the best position player (Kris Bryant) over a starting pitcher that can dial it up to triple digits on the radar gun and may have the upside of an ace, but comes with a much higher risk.

The Cubs also know pitching typically comes from all over the draft, and after closing out the first day with Mizzou starter Rob Zastryzny, they selected pitchers in six of the eight rounds in Day 2.

It was more of the same on Saturday, as the Cubs kicked off the final 30 rounds of the draft by stockpiling more arms:
Round 11: C Jordan Hankins
The Cubs began the day by selecting a catcher to receive all those pitches, taking Hankins with the 318th overall selection. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound Hankins hits left-handed and just finished his junior season at Austin Peay State University. He took home a slew of awards during his first two seasons at APSU and had a very successful three-year career, hitting .346 in 183 games with 45 doubles, 25 homers, 152 runs, 151 RBI and 103 walks compared to just 63 strikeouts.
Round 12: RHP Trevor Clifton
Clifton has been rated as one of the nation's top high-school arms over the past two seasons and saw his velocity rise to 97 mph this spring. However, the 6-foot-4, 170-pound righty is committed to Kentucky and figures to be a tough sign for the Cubs.
Round 13: RHP Trevor Graham
The Cubs continued their run on arms with the Franklin Pierce University right-hander. Graham, 6-foot-3, 220 pounds, transferred from Florida State last fall and figures to slot in as a reliever in professional baseball give his hard-nosed makeup and lack of elite stuff.
Round 14: RHP Daniel Poncedeleon
Poncedeleon, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound righty from Houston throws his fastball in the 90-93 mph range along with a curveball and two-seam fastball. His inconsistency has some scouts believing he may fit better as a reliever in the Cubs system.
Round 15: RHP Michael Wagner
With the 438th overall selection, the Cubs selected Wagner, a college teammate of No. 2 pick Bryant. Wagner has bounced around between the bullpen (where he served as San Diego's closer last year) and the rotation, and turned in an inconsistent junior season in 2013, going 2-5 with a 4.55 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 89 innings.
Round 16: C Cael Brockmeyer (6-foot-5, 235 pounds/Cal State Bakersfield)

Round 31: RHP Sean Johnson (6-foot-7, 190 pounds/Iowa Western Community College)
Round 32: RHP Keaton Leach (6-foot-2, 180 pounds/Glendale College)
