Prior to their game against Arizona Saturday evening, the Cubs purchased the contract of reliever Blake Parker, placed Rafael Dolis on the 15-day disabled list with a mild right forearm strain and designated Alex Burnett for assignment.
The 27-year-old Parker, a 16th-round pick of the Cubs in 2006, had a 2.04 ERA in 17 2/3 innings pitched with Triple-A Iowa this year. In six innings with the Cubs last year, Parker allowed four runs.
Dolis made five appearances with the Cubs in 2013 and didn't allow a run. Burnett, who was claimed off waivers from Baltimore on Monday, threw a scoreless inning against the White Sox on Wednesday and was optioned to Triple-A the following day.
