Jeff Samardzija threw a career-high 126 pitches in Monday night's game against the Chicago White Sox, giving up just one unearned run in nine innings.
But it was the same story, different night for the Chicago Cubs, who fell in the 12th inning at Wrigley Field.
The Cubs' struggling offense led to Samardzija's inability to earn a win this season, but that doesn't take away from the numbers he's delivered.
Frank Thomas was on board for the Crosstown matchup and had nothing but good things to say about Samardzija's performance.
"This guy's an ace. I sat there, right behind home plate tonight for three innings, and I saw an ace," Thomas said. "His stuff was electric."
