Opening Day Disaster

So, we waited all winter and THIS is what happens. The Cubs' worst opening day loss in 126 years. They haven't been drubbed like this in an opener since May 1, 1884 when New York beat the White Stockings 15-3. That's the "somewhat embarrassing" news.

Don't Panic!

Here's why: Opening Day rarely tells you anything about the season that lies ahead. In 2005, the Cubs won 16-6 in Arizona and went on to finish 79-83. The next year was deja vu. A 16-7 blowout win against the Reds on Opening Day. The Cubs finished 30 games under .500 by the time the season was over!

So, step away from the ledge! The same holds true for individual starts. One name. Tuffy Rhodes. Do you remember last year? Zambrano was the winning pitcher with Kevin Gregg earning the save. How did that end up?

I say embrace the loss! It's the bizzaro world. George Costanza chose the opposite and everything turned out perfectly. Maybe starting at rock bottom is the answer.

SERENITY NOW!
