The Cougars' roster looks a little bit different as the Cubs enter Year 2 with Class-A Kane County in the Chicagoland suburbs.
Top prospects Albert Almora, Dan Vogelbach and Pierce Johnson have all graduated to Advanced Class-A Daytona or beyond, leaving a couple lesser-known prospects in their wake.
Pitchers Paul Blackburn (2012 supplemental first-round pick) and Tyler Skulina (2013 fourth-round pick) join outfielder Jake Hannemann (2013 third-round pick) as the top names slated to suit up for the Cougars this season, along with a few intriguing international prospects — Cuban pitcher Gerardo Concepcion, Domincan pitcher Juan Paniagua, Taiwanese pitcher Jen-Ho Tseng and Cuban outfielder Yasiel Balaguert.
The Cubs also have a couple legacies in Kane County, with outfielder Shawon Dunston, Jr., the son of former Cubs fan favorite Shawon Dunston, and infielder Daniel Lockhart, son of former big-leaguer Keith Lockhart.
The Cougars' roster will have seven of the Cubs' 2013 draft picks and seven 2012 selections.
Kane County opens its season Thursday with a four-game set against Quad Cities. The Cougars' first home game is scheduled for April 8 at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in Geneva, Ill.
