The Cubs made it official just after noon on Thursday, announcing the hiring of Rick Renteria as the team's new manager.

Renteria and the Cubs agreed to terms on a three-year contract with club options for 2017 and 2018, per a release from the team.

Renteria comes aboard after spending the past six years as a member of the Padres' coaching staff. He also served as manager of Team Mexico in this year's World Baseball Classic and spent 13 seasons as a manager in the minor leagues, including a stop at Single-A Kane County when that club was affiliated with the Marlins.
