Cubs Road Ahead: Pieces are coming together

CSN's Kelly Crull and Cubs Insider Patrick Mooney are getting you ready for what's next with this week's Cubs Road Ahead, presented by Chicagoland and NW Indiana Honda Dealers.

The pieces are coming together for the Cubs and it's starting to show.

"For a team that had a lot of external expectations, a lot of new pieces, a new manager, young players who are trying learn how to win, I think the Cubs have definitely passed this initial test in April," said Mooney.

The Cubs have won five of their last seven games and hold an overall record of 11-7, one game behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the National League Central lead. And the Cubs are rolling even without their $155 million ace producing. Jon Lester has a history with starting the season off slow, but his track record shows that he usually finishes the season with 200-plus innings and at least 30 starts.

"As long as he stays healthy and he says his left arm is feeling fine, he should be putting up those numbers," said Mooney. "I do think you see the depth of this team when Jon Lester isn't being Jon Lester and they're still hanging with the National League Central."
