The Cubs added some bullpen depth Tuesday.
Source confirms ESPN Deportes report: Cubs have one-year, $4 million deal w/Jose Veras. $5.5 million option + incentives, pending physical.— Patrick Mooney (@CSNMooney) December 17, 2013
Last season, Veras bolstered the Tigers' bullpen after Detroit acquired him midseason following a successful few months as the Astros' closer. He converted 19 of 22 save chances with Houston and then posted a 3.20 ERA in 19 2/3 innings with Detroit.
The Cubs are Veras' eighth team and eighth different team since 2009. He debuted in 2006 with the Yankees and spent parts of four seasons in the Bronx before heading to Cleveland, Florida, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Houston and Detroit.
In 394 career appearances — all as a reliever — Veras is 19-22 with a 3.84 ERA.
The move was first reported by ESPN Deportes' Enrique Rojas.
