Red Sox icon David Ortiz joined SportsTalk Live Tuesday evening, discussing Theo Epstein, Alex Rodriguez and leadership, among other topics, with CSN's David Kaplan.
Epstein, along with current Cubs GM Jed Hoyer and senior VP of scouting and player development Jason McLeod, helped bring two championships to the city of Boston while providing a core that also won the World Series in 2013.
Ortiz, the Red Sox heart and soul during those championship runs, believes Theo and Co. can do the same here in Chicago.
"It's something that takes time," Ortiz said. "It's very special when you are able to accomplish that...He moved on to Chicago now and I'm pretty sure at some point, he's going to be able to accomplish the same thing."
Ortiz also touched on his friend, Alex Rodriguez, and the suspension he faces before Kaplan asked Ortiz about the leadership he's been able to provide in Boston over the last decade.
The Cubs currently don't have a leader like Ortiz, who commands respect and attention in and out of the clubhouse.
"It's developed over time," Ortiz said. "As a player, you get to know what your role is going to be."
