The excitement started nearly two weeks ago when the news became official that the Chicago Cubs had called Javier Baez up from Triple-A Iowa.
Throughout the last week, the 21-year-old has gotten his first taste of Wrigley Field, and he even got acquainted with Waveland Ave. on Wednesday as he hit his first home run in on the North Side.
Former Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster joined the Kap and Haugh Show on Thursday to discuss the hype surrounding Baez.
"I think for sure there's excitement," Dempster said. "They're playing good baseball and playing a little bit more exciting baseball. You look at where they're at after trading Jeff (Samardzija) and got rid of some of their other players. To see them playing as well as they're playing, going out and facing the first-place Brewers and having a chance to win the series and so it's exciting to watch them and these young guys.
"The power he's got, that's a missile he hit last night, going down on one knee and hitting an absolute bullet onto Waveland. You're going to see a lot more of that. You're going to see some mistakes and some failures at the same time, but it's exciting to see what he's done."
