Former Cubs catcher Geovany Soto has re-signed with the Texas Rangers.
The 30-year-old re-upped with the Rangers on a one-year deal worth $3.05 million plus incentives.
The Cubs traded Soto to the Rangers prior to the 2012 trade deadline after he spent parts of seven seasons with Chicago, including a 2008 campaign that earned him the National League Rookie of the Year award. Soto is expected to remain the backup catcher for the Rangers next season, after playing behind former White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski this past year.
Soto has posted a career batting average of .248, and his career totals include 656 games played, 91 home runs and 311 RBIs.
