Chris Archer made good on his top prospect status Monday, finishing in 2nd place in the 2013 AL Rookie of the Year Award voting, losing out to teammate Wil Myers.
Archer started 23 games for the Tampa Bay Rays, boasting a 9-7 record, 3.22 ERA and 1.13 WHIP with 101 strikeouts in 128.2 innings pitched. He also appeared in two games during the ALDS matchup with the Red Sox, allowing just one hit in 1.2 innings.
The Cubs acquired Archer in the 2008 New Year's Eve deal that sent Mark DeRosa to the Cleveland Indians and the 25-year-old righty was a major piece in the Matt Garza trade. At the time of the Garza deal, Archer was rated as the No. 27 prospect in the game by Baseball America.
The former fifth-round pick made his MLB debut in 2012, appearing in six games (including five starts).
