Marlins release former Cubs closer Carlos Marmol

Carlos Marmol is back on the market.

The Miami Marlins announced on Monday they have released Carlos Marmol after he was designated for assignment last week.

Marmol signed a one-year, $1.25 million contract with the Marlins in February. In 15 appearances with Miami, Marmol had a record of 0-3 with an 8.10 ERA and 10 walks.

Marmol, who was a member of the Cubs from 2006-2013, was traded by Chicago to the Los Angeles Dodgers for reliever Matt Guerrier on July 2, 2013. In 21 appearances for the Dodgers he had an ERA of 2.53.

In nine seasons, Marmol has an ERA of 3.57 with 744 strikeouts and 117 saves. He was named to the National League All-Star team in 2008.
