The search for Pat Hughes’ next radio sidekick during Cubs games is now over.
According to a report from Robert Feder, WGN and the Cubs will announce on Friday the hiring of former Cubs infielder Ron Coomer, who will join Hughes in the booth as the color commentator, a position formerly occupied by Keith Moreland. The search had reportedly been down to Coomer and former Cubs outfielder Todd Hollandsworth. Coomer's deal is reportedly for two years.
Coomer played in Chicago during the 2001 season, where he hit .261 and slugged 8 home runs with 53 RBIs. Before being hired at WGN, Coomer worked on pre- and postgame shows for Minnesota Twins games for Fox Sports North.
