The Rusney Castillo watch appears to be over.
According to MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez, Castillo is closing in on a deal with the Boston Red Sox.
If Castillo's rumored six-year, $72 million contract is true, it will surpass Jose Abreu's six-year, $68 million deal with the White Sox as the largest contract signed by an amateur player in MLB history.
The Cubs had serious interest in the Cuban outfielder, and put Castillo's image up on the LED board in right field when they hosted him for a private workout at Wrigley Field.
The 27-year-old Castillo is known for his blazing speed, and MLB.com compared his style of play to New York Yankees outfielders Brett Gardner and Jacoby Ellsbury.
The Detroit Tigers, San Francisco Giants, Philadelphia Phillies, Seattle Mariners and Yankees, along with the Cubs were in the running for Castillo's services.
