What looked to be a promising career for Mark Prior has officially ended, according to Mike Berardino.

The 33-year-old told Berardino that he is "officially retired" after suffering another shoulder injury while on the Cincinnati Reds' Triple-A affiliate team.

Prior played five seasons with the Cubs and had his best year in 2003, where the team made it to the NLCS. He posted a 18-6 record that year with a 2.43 ERA and 245 strikeouts, which earned him an All-Star vote.

Prior didn't return to the Cubs following the 2007 season. He never made it back to the big leagues despite attempts with five different MLB teams.
