Chicago Cubs fans got a glimpse into the future on Tuesday night as Javier Baez made his major-league debut in Colorado.
After going 0-for-5 with three strikeouts, Baez wrote the perfect ending for the Cubs in the 12th inning, knocking a home run out of the park to win it for the North Siders.
From the media to the fans, Baez Mania has been in full force. But was his performance on Tuesday overhyped?
"I wouldn't say he lived up to the billing," CSN's Ryan McGuffey said. "In the spotlight, hit a home run in extra innings, his first big-league hit's a home run. Theo [Epstein] and Jed [Hoyer] couldn't be happier.
"The issue I have is that one of the best players in baseball plays eight miles south — Jose Abreu. Jason Stark pointed it out, he wrote a column about how Jose Abreu isn't talked about enough, and I completely agree."
