Cubs icon Ryne Sandberg earned his first win as a manager Sunday as the Phillies defeated the Dodgers 3-2.

"Achieved a couple of firsts personally," Sandberg said. "Got my first run by [Darin] Ruf's homerun, which broke an ice streak there."

Sandberg took over as interim manager of the Phillies after they relieved Charlie Manuel of his duties after nine years at the helm.

He interviewed for the Cubs manager position before the 2011 season. The Cubs decided to hire Mike Quade instead and Sandberg left for the Phillies organization shorty thereafter.

"I think this is a game against a very good team, a hot team that we'll take right now and hopefully build from that," Sandberg said of his first win. "Hopefully it will give us some momentum going into the rest of the homestand."
