Javier Baez is getting most of the attention in Cubs camp, but Kris Bryant is certainly holding his own.
Bryant hit his second homer of spring training Friday, following up on his 2013, in which he hit 46 bombs through college, the minors and the Arizona Fall League.
CBSSports' Jon Heyman polled a bunch of scouts and they all raved about Bryant:
"He's a monster with ridiculous power," one A.L. scout said.
"All-Star third baseman ... soon," one N.L. executive said.
"Huge power, Good athlete," another N.L. executive said.
"Fifty homer power," yet another N.L. executive (like the others not with the Cubs) said.
The scouts didn't stop there, though.
We've already heard comparisons to Troy Glaus (who put up an .847 OPS with 320 homers over his 13-year MLB career), but these scouts compared Bryant to Dale Murphy (.815 OPS, 398 HR in 18 MLB seasons) and Ryan Braun (career .938 OPS to date), though "with less speed and less steroids."
This is the same kid that told the media last week, "I've just been blessed with power and I'm putting it to use."
If scouts keep raving about Cubs prospects like they have this week, the fan base is going to have an awfully difficult time staying patient.
Yeah, good luck with that.
