David Koechner, who is best known for his role as Champ Kind from the hit movie Anchorman and Anchorman 2, was on hand at Wrigley Field Thursday afternoon to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
Koechner was hoping he would impress Cubs manager Rick Renteria enough to leave him out there in place of starter Travis Wood.
"It was going to be a last minute call, but I don't know why they would pull me," Koechner told CSN's Kelly Crull. "I'll settle down in the later innings so you've got to stay with me for the early ones. We'll try to keep the runs down to a minimum, but I'm feeling it today."
Koechner, who lived in Chicago for nine years, is in town for his stand-up comedy show at the Park West on Friday and to promote his new movie Cheap Thrills.
