The Fire announced on Wednesday that they have acquired midfielder Benji Joya. The transaction was a result of a weighted lottery.
Joya will join the Fire on a one-year loan from Club Santos Laguna of Liga MX with a transfer option. He will join the club pending receipt of his ITC.
“Benji is a talented, young player,” Fire head coach and director of soccer Frank Yallop said in a statement. “He has international experience and will be a great addition as we continue to build and strengthen our squad.”
The 20-year-old Joya is a native of San Jose and is a U.S. Youth International. He was a also a member of the De Anza Force of the USSF Development Academy. Joya was the captain of the U.S. team that qualified for the 2014 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey.
Per league and team policy, terms of the the deal were not disclosed.
