Former Fire head coach Frank Klopas signed a three-year deal with the Montreal Impact on Wednesday to become their new head coach and director of player personnel for the club's first team. Details of the contract were not released.

Klopas joined the Fire back in 2008 as the team's technical director before also being named head coach in 2011. He inherited a team with a 1-4-6 record and led them to 9-9-16 record by the end of the season. In 2012 the team improved to a 17-11-6 record.

The Fire closed out their 2013 season with a 14-13-7 record and missed the season by just a single point.

As it turned out, that final game against the New York Red Bulls was Klopas' last in Chicago, as he was relieved on his duties back on Oct. 29.

Now he and the Montreal Impact will kick off their training camp on Jan. 27.
