Bears offense has ‘one of those days'

BOURBONNAIS, Ill.All those weapons in the 2012 Bears offense

So what were linebackers Nick Roach and Lance Briggs and nickel back D.J. Moore doing running back interceptions of Jay Cutler for touchdowns?

And cornerback Tim Jennings picking off another Cutler throw in the red zone?

It was not a replay of Cutlers 2009 Year of the Red Zone Pick, but it also was not a day the offense would like to see too often, in practice let alone a game.

They know what route were going to run before we run it, declared grumpy receivers coach Darryl Drake. Tim Jennings is a smart football player. He knows our plays, knows our signals, same with Peanut Tillman. Theyre going to make plays down there.

Theyre going to have good days, were going to have good days. Do your assignment and make the plays you need to make. But its going to be that way when youre going against each other.

Cutler connected on some throws to Brandon Marshall and rookie Alshon Jeffery, who replaces Devin Hester at one wide receiver spot down inside the 10-yard line, where his size and strength are forces against defensive backs.

But the overall was ragged for the second straight day and the focus is on eliminating ragged from an offense that shouldnt be.

We have some things that I like and they like that were not efficient at right now, offensive coordinator Mike Tice acknowledged. Some things around the goal line. Some things in middle downs on third downs. And were going to continue to work on them because Im going to call them.

Theyre going to continue to work on those. They like them. We just right now are a little bit off in some areas. Thats part of what camp is for.
