Bears thinking beyond first round with WR Jeffrey

The Bears brought South Carolina wide receiver Alshon Jeffery to Halas Hall for a visit. Best guess is that they could be planning a move in his direction in the second round of next weekends draft.

NFL Network game analyst Mike Mayock does not rate Jeffery as a first-round pick. Indeed, Mayock posits four receivers worth first-round picks: Oklahoma States Justin Blackmon, slotted to the Rams at No. 6; Notre Dames Michael Floyd, who could go No. 7 to Jacksonville; Kendall Wright from Baylor; and possibly Stephen Hill from Georgia Tech, the great unknown with speed but limited college production.

Hill is really raw but boy, is he athletic, Mayock said.

Floyd has been projected to the Bears at No. 19 in some early mock drafts but he is not expected to last until then. The Jaguars have a crying need for receiving help but the organization has shied away from players with even minor offseason questions and I dont think theyll pull the trigger on Floyd because of the off-the-field issues, Mayock said.

So assuming that the top four are gone by early in the second round, the next receiver is likely to be LSUs Rueben Randle, a true vertical threat.

After thatand the Bears sit at No. 18 in the second round, the 50th pick overallJefferey could well be dropping into the Bears slot and plans. He is 6-4, not a speed threat, but a player with a rep for fighting for balls, a quality the Bears (and quarterbacks) treasure.

Jefferey is 6-4, 230 poundssame as Brandon Marshall. But I worry about what his weight is going to be, Mayock said. Hes a gifted kid who doesnt run very well.
